Design and Equivalence Evaluation of Type Test for Hybrid DC Circuit Breaker

Abstract: Type test on hybrid DC breaker is the key technology for verifying validity of equipment design. In this paper, design and equivalence evaluation principles of type test for hybrid DC circuit breaker was studied. Based on hybrid DC circuit breaker functional theory and operational states, effects of these characteristic stresses were analyzed with a device-level DC breaker simulation model in PSCAD/EMTDC. Based on stress analysis, type test framework for hybrid DC circuit breaker used for MMC-HVDC was built, and equivalence evaluation method in relation to key stresses was extracted, aiming to achieve a DC circuit breaker type test suitable for practical application. This paper established an equivalence evaluation method derived from dual-level stress concept based on both of whole machine and its core components, able to correctly evaluate equivalence of the type test.
