Complete Set Design Scheme of Protection and Control System for UHVDC Project and Its Features
The complete set design of control and protection system for UHVDC power transmission project is proposed and the full scheme of the design, in which the factors such as global structure of control and protection system, the hierarchy of hardware, its functions and the performance requirements, system interfaces and the platform for software and hardware are fully considered, is given. Meanwhile, the features of this scheme and the technological improvements different from those applied in former HVDC projects are discoursed upon which include new introduced Intel Core DUO microprocessor, replacement of TDM bus and CAN bus with eTDM bus, IN-TIME operation system, two out of three logic of DC protection system etc. The proposed design scheme has been applied in ±800 kV DC power transmission project from Xiangjiaba to Shanghai.

Application of Totally-Enclosed Concentrated Insulating Oil Disposal System in Construction of 1 000 kV Substation
Different from traditional open oil-filtering methods, a totally-enclosed concentrated insulating oil disposal method is proposed, and a corresponding oil-filtering system is developed and designed. Through high-performance oil-pipe, in the proposed system the vacuum oil filter, pressuring oil filter, oil tank are combined with transformer or reactor; by means of switching over of oil circuit different oil-filtering functions can be implemented, thus the difficult problems such as the request for high quality of insulating-oil by large-scale oil immersed equipments of UHV substations and the difficulty to disposal large amount of insulating-oil are solved. The practical test of insulating-oil filtering for high voltage reactor installed in 1 000 kV Nanyang switching station proves that the proposed oil-filtering method and the developed oil-filtering system are feasible and efficiency.

Application of Geographic Information in Automatic Generation of Single-Line Diagrams for Power Transmission Networks
A new geographic information based on method to automatically generate single-line diagrams is presented. In this method, the geographic information of key nodes is lead into the general mathematical model of the node layout problem, firstly, by use of penalty function with constraints the initial layout of nodes in single-line diagram is obtained, then the initial layout is optimized to obtain final layout. Only using the geographic information of few key nodes, the automatic node placement of power network can be implemented, and it not only improves the performance of automatic generation algorithm for single-line diagram, but also the node placement is elegant and clear and more suitable for dispatchers. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by testing system.

Coordination Control between TCSC and Generator Excitation Based on Optimal Variable Aim Strategy
Both generator excitation system and thyristor-controlled series capacitor (TCSC) influence the stability of long-distance power transmission system greatly. Based on the theory of optimal variable aim control (OVAC), a coordinated control approach for TCSC and generator excitation system is proposed. Firstly, according to nonlinear model of single-machine infinite-bus system containing TCSC a set of state equations is built; then by use of OVAC theory the coordinated control law for TCSC and excitation system is derived; finally, the simulation is carried out to verify the proposed control method. Simulation results show that the proposed control approach can improve system damping, effectively eliminate power oscillation of power grid and enhance power system stability.

Comprehensive Compensation of Reactive Power and Negative Sequence Components for Traction Substations
The positive sequence reactive power compensation of traction load is only related to total compensating capacity of shunt compensator, and not related to the connection mode of transformers and the distribution mode of compensating capacity in every port; however, the compensation of negative sequence power is not only related to the power and power factor of traction load, but also to the distribution of compensating capacity in ports of transformer secondary side and the features of shunt compensation. According to the compensating characteristic of traction load by shunt compensation, two kinds of optimal configuration schemes for reactive power and negative sequence compensation are proposed, and the general expression for compensating capacity of each compensating port under the two compensation schemes is given. Taking the measured data of a certain traction substation for example, the feasibility of the two proposed compensation schemes is verified.

Frequency Control for Islanded System at Sending Terminal of HVDC Power Transmission from China to Mongolia
The electric power generated by pithead power plants in Mongolia will be transmitted to load center of North China power grid, i.e., Beijing―Tianjin―Tangshan area, through China-Mongolia HVDC project. The isolated island operation mode is used for the AC power system at the sending end of HVDC system. To cope with the rapid frequency increase at sending end caused by monopole block of HVDC system or post-fault operation condition of AC system at receiving area, the effectiveness of the measures to solve frequency increase at sending end, such as security and stability control system, generator over-speed protection control and DC additional control is researched, and a control scheme coordinating above-mentioned measures is proposed. Simulation results show that the frequency stability can be well solved by comprehensive control means and the stability of power grid can be enhanced.

Short-term Planning Algorithm Considering Fuzziness of Load
By use of credibility theory based fuzzy power flow algorithm, a short-term planning model for transmisison network and corresponding algorithm are built. At first, according to the evaluation results of current power network load level a candidate line set is automatically established by sensitivity technology; then various planning schemes are formed by selecting lines from the candidate line set to build optimization model for power network short-term planning; and then, by use of fuzzy power flow algorithm the operation performance of the presupposed planned network is anlayzed and an optimal scheme can be obtained by genetic algorithm (GA); finally, the IEEE14 test system is used to illuminate the validity of this model. The research results of this paper can be expanded to the application in power network planning under the corporate impacts of multiple fuzzy factors. The model and algorithm proposed in this paper has been implemented on the EMS platform, by means of the accurate power network model offered by EMS and plenty of intact power network operation data, the credibility of planning result is improved.

Reliability Modeling and Redundancy Analysis of Converter Valves for VSC-HVDC Power Transmission System Based on k-out-of-n: G Model
VSC-HVDC power transmission system based on voltage source converter (VSC) and pulse width modulation (PWM) control possesses following advantages: flexible power control, capability of transmitting power to active and passive network as well as lower harmonics amount, etc. The reliability model and analysis method of the converter valves in VSC-HVDC system is mainly concerned. The authors present the internal structure and functions of converter valve and its control, cooling and protection system. Based on the k-out-of-n: G model and taking the StakPak IGBT from ABB Semiconductors for example, the mathematical reliability model for converter valve and its sub-module is established. By means of calculation and analysis, the reliability indices of converter valve under various voltage classes and different redundancies are obtained, then rational redundant scheme is chosen.

Design of Adaptive Critic Stabilizer for Unified Power Flow Controller
In a multi-machine power system with weak damping link in which unified power flow controller (UPFC) is installed, based on linearized state equations of the whole power system and by means of utilizing state equations and the data of trnsfer function comprehensively, a linear stabilizer for UPFC is designed. To make this stabililzer possible to provide effective damping for the operation points within a large range of the system, a first order adjustable phase compensation block is added in the designed stabilizer for UPFC, and online discrimination of low frequency oscillation characteristic of the system is analyzed by Prony algorithm. Using the obtained results of online discrimination, fine-adjustment is performed in the adjustable phase compensation block to make it conducting adaptive critic for concrete operating condition of power system, thus the designed stabilizer can contineously operate in optimal state. Finally, by use of Electromagnetic Transients including DC programm (EMTDC), a two-area power system with weak damping link, in which UPFC is configured, is simulated. Simulation results show that the damping level of this power sytem can be evidently imropved by the designed adaptive critic stabilizer.

Solving Unit Maintenance Scheduling Problem by Use of Improved Ant Colony Algorithm
Along with the rapid development of computer technology, artificial intelligent methods are widely applied in dynamic combinatorial optimization problems. Aiming at the optimization of unit maintenance scheduling, a unit maintenance scheduling model is built in which the minimum system operation cost is taken as objective function. In view of maintenance state combination, the built model is transformed into dynamic model and by use of improved ant colony algorithm a method to solve the dynamic model is proposed. To remedy its deficiency, the basic ant colony algorithm is improved in both transition probability and dynamic updating of pheromone. Using the state table memory mechanism, the constraints such as the continuity of maintenance scheduling and start time of maintenance are well processes. For other constraints, by means of penalty function the augmented objective function is formed. Case study result shows that the proposed method is flexible and its calculation speed is satisfied.

Identification of Oscillatory Transients Based on Modulus Maximum Wavelet Domain and TLS-ESPRIT
At present the time domain eigenvector extraction and intelligent pattern recognition are widely applied to oscillatory transients detection and recognition for power quality disturbances detection and location, however, these methods cannot precisely extract the composition of different frequency components in power quality oscillatory transient signals. The detection and recognition of oscillatory signals can be well implemented by combining modulus maximum wavelet domain with total least squares-estimation of signal parameters via rotational invariance techniques (TLS-ESPRIT). For input signals, firstly the initial time and the end time of the oscillation are detected by modulus maximum wavelet domain; then using the signals within the time interval of the oscillation the observation space matrix is built, and by means of singular value decomposition and total least squares method the truncation of eigenvalue is implemented; and then the observation space of sampled signals is resolved into signal subspace and noise subspace, thus the corresponding parameters of each frequency component that composes the oscillatory signals are obtained. Simulation results verify the feasibility of the proposed method.

Improving Power System Stability by Use of Water Pressure Feedback of Hydroturbine
By means of simulation of complex nonlinear model of hydroturbine generating unit, the impact of the control law of hydraulic turbine governor on power system stability is researched, and a control idea of adopting water pressure feedback to improve power system stability is proposed. Simulation results show that due to the water hammer effect of water diversion system for hydroturbine generating unit, the automatic regulation of prime mover may deteriorates system damping and makes the decay rate of rotor vacillation decelerated evidently; however, by means of introducing the derivative feedback of water pressure the attenuation of rotor vacillation can be accelerated and improve power system stability effectively. The proposed method is simple and easy to implement in hydraulic turbine governor.

An Extension Method of Common Information Model Oriented to Heterogeneity of Electric Power Simulation System
According to the element class and its topological relation related to power system simulation in common information model (CIM), the deficiencies of CIM in modeling and application of electromechanical transient analysis are analyzed. The attributes of synchronous machine class and energy consumer class, which are for load modeling, are extended; and based on the definition of IEEE standard excitation system, an excitation model class are newly built. A simulation information exchange and test is designed and implemented. Combining with BPA and PSS/E simulation software commonly applied in China, a test environment is constructed and the simulation test is carried out by use of New England 10-machine 39-bus system. Testing results verify the effectiveness of model extension.

Urgent Situation Analysis Based on Thevenin Equivalent Parameters
An urgent situation analysis method based on Thevenin equivalent parameters and power flow calculation is proposed. Combining with N-1 security assessment, the urgent operation pattern after N-1 accident is explored; the developing tendency of power system subsequent crisis and the tenacity under the imbalance between power supply and demand is researched in depth. Research results show that it is possible to alleviate the subsequent crisis, including voltage instability and trip-out of transmission line, by increasing the value of impedance modulus ratio of such nodes where the ratio of nodal load impedance modulus to Thevenin impedance modulus is lower as well as to enhance the tenacity of urgent operation pattern.

Development and Application of Open-Type Power Quality Monitoring System for Jiangxi Section of Zhejiang-Jiangxi Electrified Railway
According to the requirements of power quality management in Jiangxi section of Zhejiang-Jiangxi electrified railway, a comprehensive open-type power quality monitoring system is developed. The idea of model driven architecture is applied to the design of system software and the modeling of objects related to power quality conforms to IEC 61850 standard. By use of power quality data concentrator, the connection of heterogeneous devices in substation system is implemented. Thus, the technical defects of existing power quality monitoring system in openness, standardization and automation are remedied. The real-time global power quality monitoring and connection of monitoring devices of different types and provided by different manufacturers in fourteen substations in Jiangxi section of Zhejiang-Jiangxi electrified railway are realized. The developed power quality monitoring system offer a good platform to power and railway departments for the monitoring, analysis and control of power quality.

A Summarization of Research on Fault Current Limiter of Power System
In this paper the present situation of the research and development of power system fault current limiter (FLC) are summarized; the main classifications and features of FCLs as well as the implementation of economic FCLs with different current limitation modes are presented. The key problems to be solved in the practicability research of FCL, including the interactive impacts between FCL and the whole performance of power system, the interactive impacts between FCL and key equipments of power system such as generators, circuit breakers, protective relayings, economic evaluation of FCL, optimal design of FCL and on-line state detection of FCL, etc., are summed up. The advance of authors' research on the new practicable design scheme for ZnO arrester based FCL and its application study are introduced.

Generation Companies' Bidding Strategies Considering Option Contracts
How to utilize existing information to determine reasonable bidding strategy and to optimize its own economic benefit are important problems that each generation company has to be faced with. Based on the assumption that generation companies can utilize the open information in electricity market to form the probability estimation on competitors' strategic behavior, a Cournot game model based on the option with maximized expected revenue and two stage incomplete information in spot market is built; a nonlinear complementary method to solve the built model is given and the impacts of probability estimation of competitors' strategic behavior, risk evasion factors and conjectural variable on strategic behavior of generation companies are analyzed. Analysis of examples shows that the proposed method is effective.

Research on Transaction Mode of Direct Power Purchase by Large Consumers in Electricity Market
In this paper two modes for direct power purchase by large consumers are proposed: the negotiation based bilateral transaction mode and matchmaking based concentrated bidding transaction mode, meanwhile, the pros and cons of implementing direct power purchase by large consumers by provincial and regional platform are analyzed. The related cross-subsidization is emphatically researched, and a think of collecting cross-subsidization by two manners, i.e., paying surcharges by consumers and taking transmission and distribution tariffs into account, is put forward. Finally, the transaction rule and algorithm are designed. Above-mentioned research result is available for reference in the promotion of direct power purchase by large consumers in China.

Application of New Type of Propulsion Transformer in Harmonic Suppression for Ship Power System
Different from terrestrial power grids, due to its finite generation capacity the electric propulsion ship power system is a relatively independent system and its anti- interference ability to nonlinear load is weak. For the existing problem in traditional filtering methods, a new sensor filtering technique, which uses new type of propulsion transformer to implement harmonic suppression, is proposed, and the structural design of the winding of this propulsion transformer and the filtering principle are presented. The 6-phase AC-DC-AC propulsive ship power system based on the new type of propulsion transformer is simulated by Simulink, and the correctness and feasibility of the proposed scheme are verified by simulation results.

Research of Time Synchronization in Digital Substation Based on IEEE 1588
IEEE 1588 defines a precision time protocol (PTP) for networked measurement and control systems, which supports systemwide synchronization accuracy in the submicrosecond range. This paper introduces the principle of high precision clock synchronization and the PTP clock models defined in IEEE 1588 standard. According to topological structure of substation communication network conforming to IEC 61850 standard, application schemes of IEEE 1588 in digital substation are proposed, and their advantages and disadvantages are also discussed. Then the redundancy configuration method of clock unit and its function implement are given. Clock synchronization error of IEEE 1588 standard is theoretically analyzed. At last, concrete systemwide application strategies of IEEE 1588 standard in area power network are researched.
